“The commissioning patron’s deep-rooted connection to Boat Tail is an inspiration – the result far exceeds a means of conveyance to become, quite literally, a moving work of art.» the words of the head of Rolls Royce Coachbuild design Alex Innes to describe one of just three Boat Tails that will be ever made, the one we like to call “The mother of pearls”. It is a very special commision to pay homage to the owner´s father and his entire legacy.

Revealed at the Concorso d´Eleganza 2022 this Boat Tail is not only the new most expensive car in the world, but it is surely one of the most impressive automobiles ever designed and created. At first sight we can notice the inspiration from the 20th century racing yachts as we saw on the first Boat Tail ever made, but this one is different, starting from the exterior color, which was specially bespoked for this car taking inspiration on the four pearl shells the client presented to the coachbuild designers. We can assure this has been one of the most complex finishes to achieve by the coachbuild team.

This color created by blending oyster and rose gold with a unique touch of white and bronze mica flakes is paired perfectly with a top tier cognac colored bonnet on the inside, created specifically for this car paired with rose gold, and bronze touches all around. As you may expect, this Boat Tail also features a central Bovet timepiece, with the slight difference that this one has a mother of pearl dial selected and provided by the client. Whenever we take a look at the inside of this Boat Tail we can tell the connection between colors and materials with the owner and his family heritage.

Lets now talk about the most important and fulfilling part of this car, the rear deck; there are no exact words to describe the butterfly design of the hosting suite, we can just think of one, “perfection”, specially on this Boat Tail because it is swathed in royal walnut veneer inlaid with rose gold-plated pinstripes with a satin-brushed finish to ensure a sensitive and sophisticated appearance. This is no coincidence, the client specified the walnut veneer because it matures over time, turning it into a sophisticated cognac colorway that will eventually match the pearl color even better. From above, one observes a harmonious balance and satin effect of the iced bonnet and tactile wooden rear deck, in contrast with the high-gloss front and side perspectives.

As Alex Innes stated, this is a moving work of art, a one of one bespoke car designed and handcrafted by the luxury brand by excellence; if you ask me, there is no better way to homage your family heritage, the dedication and hard work through the years will finally be compensated with what it is today, the most expensive modern car, the Mother of Pearls.
